As part of our 30 Under 30 initiative, we’re celebrating the next generation of leaders shaping the future of the maritime industry. Next up is Lina, Lead Sustainability Engineer at International Seaways, and a standout emerging talent driving both sustainability performance and technical innovation across the fleet.

Lina plays a central role in shaping how sustainability is measured, understood, and acted upon across the organisation. She is responsible for collecting and analysing sustainability data, producing the company’s annual sustainability report, and leading key internal and external sustainability initiatives. She also acts as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board, helping translate complex sustainability topics into clear, actionable insight. Alongside this, she is an integral part of the performance and engineering team, supporting fleet efficiency improvements and contributing to projects ranging from operational upgrades to newbuild vessel design.

Over the past 12 months, Lina has taken ownership of the production of Seaways’ 2024 Sustainability Report, the first to include independent third-party assurance, marking a significant step forward in transparency and reporting quality. She has also contributed to major technical studies, including wind-assisted propulsion design work and future VLCC development projects, helping to shape long-term decarbonisation strategy. In parallel, she maintains regular engagement with lenders, shareholders, and external stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact on sustainability performance and strategy.

What sets Lina apart is the level of trust and influence she has built early in her career. Since joining Seaways as a student intern at Webb Institute, she quickly demonstrated exceptional analytical and communication skills, presenting directly to senior leadership, including the CEO, within months of joining. Her ability to operate confidently at this level has seen her take on increasing responsibility, including direct engagement with executive leadership on sustainability questions raised by shareholders.

Beyond her technical capability, Lina has become a recognised voice externally in maritime sustainability. She has spoken at industry forums including WISTA Annual General Meetings and the HACC-NACC conference, and contributed to podcasts and panel discussions focused on decarbonisation in shipping, helping to share practical insight on the industry’s transition challenges.

Lina’s journey reflects a rare combination of technical depth, communication strength, and early leadership impact. From intern to trusted sustainability expert advising senior stakeholders and external partners, she has quickly become an essential part of Seaways’ sustainability strategy and a rising talent in maritime decarbonisation.
