As part of our 30 Under 30 initiative, we’re celebrating the next generation of leaders shaping the future of the maritime industry. Next up is Pranav Prakash, Third Engineer, and a standout emerging talent representing the next wave of technically skilled and forward-thinking seafarers.
Pranav plays a critical role at the heart of vessel operations. As a Third Engineer on modern container ships, he is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant running of key engine room systems. From managing auxiliary machinery and fuel systems to troubleshooting complex technical issues, his work ensures operational reliability in one of the most demanding environments in the industry.
Over the past 12 months, Pranav has taken on increased responsibility following his promotion, demonstrating strong technical capability under real-world commercial pressures. He has supported the operation and maintenance of advanced vessel systems, strengthened fault-diagnosis practices to reduce recurring issues, and contributed to improving maintenance planning through a more systematic, preventative approach. Alongside this, he has gained hands-on experience with next-generation propulsion and fuel systems, supporting the industry’s transition toward lower-emission operations.
What sets Pranav apart is not just his technical competence, but his mindset. He brings a proactive, solutions-focused approach to his role, actively engaging with wider industry challenges such as alternative fuels, safety culture, and operational efficiency. He is also committed to continuous development, both in progressing his own technical qualifications and in supporting and mentoring junior crew members onboard.
Working in high-pressure, resource-constrained environments at sea, Pranav has demonstrated resilience and composure in the face of operational and personal challenges. Notably, he continued to perform his duties following a deeply difficult onboard incident, maintaining professionalism while reinforcing the importance of teamwork and safety culture.
Balancing the demands of life at sea with ongoing professional development, Pranav has shown dedication, adaptability, and a clear drive to progress. In an industry undergoing significant change, he stands out as someone not only developing quickly, but actively contributing to safer, smarter, and more sustainable shipping.
