Spinnaker has recently joined forces with Teesside based charity, High Tide Foundation, to help them in raising awareness of port-related industries and the many career opportunities that are available in shipping and accompanying sectors.
The charity, based alongside Teesport in Middlesbrough, was co-founded in 2011 by Casper Shipping and PD Ports, an award-winning ports and logistics company, and aim to raise the aspirations of young people in their area. As a Foundation, it has been hugely influential in helping to create job opportunities for school leavers and graduates in the North East over the last five years.
Since its conception, they have provided much hope for many youngsters in the search for recruitment, apprenticeships and other work-based placements, giving them a chance to learn vital employability skills. The Foundation’s co-ordinators and its trustees have been key in pioneering multiple successful schemes over the years that they have been active, connecting both industry and education in a harmonious bond to build awareness of port-related businesses that sit alongside the River Tees and across the UK.
Spinnaker has now agreed to become involved with the Foundation, believing that they can aid in showcasing career opportunities within the shipping, logistics and port industries; perhaps that youngsters may not currently be aware of. Because of this, owner, Phil Parry has pledged his time to the Foundation, hosting a talk for students during its London Law Placement later this year, in which a select number of law students will visit the capital to establish valuable knowledge within the field. Not only this, but Spinnaker will also provide a CV preparation session to ready them for potential job applications.
Up until now, High Tide Foundation has provided over 100 young people from over 300 schools with work experience placements through their Summer Scheme, giving them the opportunity to get their feet on the career ladder and to also broaden their skills for progression into their chosen jobs in the future. Working alongside some of the best companies on Teesside and in the industry, including AV Dawson, Bond Dickinson, Casper Shipping, Emirates, Nifco and Sabic; they ensure that applicants to their many career progressing programmes are fulfilled with meaningful and valuable work experience.
