Spinnaker's HR Consulting Services Division is conducting a research project on staff-to-vessel ratios. This seems to be of significant interest to the members of the Maritime HR Forum at the moment. We are investigating the ratio of vessels per superintendent, fleet manager etc, aiming to help our clients understand whether they are lean and mean or flabby and wobbly.
All of this feeds into an appreciation of cost and organisation efficiencies. Salaries in company X may look high, but if company Y employs 30% more people per vessel, their low salaries don't look quite as impressive to the shareholders.
The study is researching a range of staff metrics, not just superintendents. While the research is nearly complete, you're still welcome to be a part of it. If this is of interest, please contact Michele Hawkins on [email protected].
