On 8-9 May the members of the Maritime HR Forum take to London for their annual conference, where shipping employers discuss the most timely issues facing maritime HR today.
The 8th annual Maritime HR Forum Conference has shaped up to be a truly must-attend event and is already at full capacity due to its priority booking for members of the Maritime HR Forum. However, you can follow all the goings-on by tracking the hashtag #maritimehr on Twitter.
Delegates will be treated to a maritime economics update from Stephen Gordon, MD of Clarkson Research, and will, with a panel from Brit Insurance, Intermanager, Tradewinds, Moore Stephens and Spinnaker, debate industry trends from loss prevention by good leadership, to skills shortages and wage inflation via money money money – bonuses and private equity. Teresa Peacock, Spinnaker's Business Development Director and WISTA Membership Secretary will be facilitating a breakout session on women in shipping, focusing on gender diversity, the attraction and retention of women in the maritime industry, reverse discrimination and the glass ceiling.
The best thing about the Maritime HR Forum Conference is that it's a members' event. Unlike most large industry events, the content is driven by the delegates, who spend more than half their time in discussion with each other, sharing ideas and best practice on retention and motivation, developing leaders, how to use social media to drive internal communication, pay & politics and managing HR across borders. It's all a far cry from the Maritime HR Forum's early days when 8 founding members gathered in AET's offices in London with bright idea. The Forum now boasts nearly 80 members and is the primary source of shoreside HR data for the global shipping industry.
