We go behind the scenes of the MSc International Shipping and Finance offered by the ICMA Centre, Henley Business School.
Four years ago Dr Alexandridis, Associate Professor of Corporate Finance and Maritime Trade at the world renowned ICMA Centre, Henley Business School, put together a somewhat unique Masters programme for young graduates aiming to embark upon a career in the shipping industry.
The MSc in International Shipping and Finance is quite innovative due to its practice centred approach that combines traditional lectures with 'industry insight master-classes' delivered by world-class London based practitioners, hands-on sessions and bespoke simulations, a series of company visits and field trips as well a one-month visit to ALBA Graduate Business School in Greece, the country with the largest merchant fleet in the world and home to over 700 shipping companies.
The fact that 80% of the programme's participants in 2013 secured internships or full time positions in the shipping industry following completion is a sign of success for the programme and justifies its rising reputation in the market.
MSc ISF features a bespoke career development programme. Phil Parry, Chairman of Spinnaker Consulting (right) is a member of the business advisory committee of the Masters and delivers an annual shipping careers master-class every October which aims to give candidates a flavour of the different career roles in the industry.
