We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Gard CEO Claes Isacson on 12 July.
Claes joined Gard in 1996 – the year before Spinnaker was founded – and in 2001 became CEO. It was Claes' vision of growth and diversification that saw Gard become the largest P&I club in the world, and the global third largest marine insurer.
Claes created the Gard Academy, focusing on educational development, expanded the Gard office network, and oversaw Gard's gross tonnage increase to 175 million this year, a huge achievement from a truly inspiring member of the P&I and broader shipping community.
