THE lessons learned from the Titanic – enshrined notably in the Safety of Life at Sea Convention – form the theme for World Maritime Day this year, and sadly the Costa Concordia has proved a sad reminder of what can go wrong.
Ironically, this probably means that the centenary year will now receive even more publicity. Also ironically, new casualty management guidelines are due to be published by the Nautical Institute in March, while the International Chamber of Shipping has also produced guidance following the Costa Concordia.
