A SHORTAGE of qualified seafarers, or seafarers that have been promoted too fast for their capabilities, continues to be an issue. This obviously applies to all sectors in the maritime industry, and the issue was raised at the recent International Salvage Union associate members day, as salvage firms seek to attract salvage masters into the industry, not to mention all the other people involved in salvage operations. More work seems likely to generate more jobs but are salvage masters adequately incentivised to do their job?
