International Women’s day

THE latest WISTA event was very timely, coinciding as it did with the 100th anniversary of Women’s International Day.

Gone are the days when women had to throw themselves under racehorses at Ascot to protest at not having the vote. The first Women’s International Day actually took place in 1911 although the groundwork was laid the previous year. For the first event, WISTA tells us, men stayed at home with the kids while the women went out to meetings (doesn’t sound much fun) and had scuffles with the police (much more amusing).
