The responses offer a clear and timely snapshot of how expectations around executive search are evolving — from sector expertise and global reach to transparency, trust, and long-term impact. In this blog, we highlight the key findings and what they mean for organisations navigating senior leadership hiring in today’s complex market.

What qualities are most important when selecting an Executive Search firm?

Deep sector knowledge and access to a global candidate network emerged as joint priorities, each cited by 33% of respondents. Discretion and confidentiality followed closely at 27%, underlining the continued importance of trust and reputation when hiring at the most senior levels. Interestingly, speed of delivery ranked lower, with just 6% identifying it as the primary driver.

The message is clear: when it comes to executive leadership appointments, organisations are focused on quality over pace. Boards and CEOs are prioritising long-term fit — leaders who understand the nuances of the industry and can operate effectively on a global stage — over simply accelerating the process.

What are your main concerns when using an Executive Search firm?

Respondents highlighted the importance of clear value alignment, with cost awareness cited by 50%, followed by transparency of process (22%) and clarity around timelines (17%). A smaller proportion (11%) emphasised the importance of sector expertise.

These insights reinforce a constructive takeaway: executive search is most effective when it operates as a strategic partnership. Clear communication, visible expertise, and a well-defined process are central to ensuring that investment in search delivers lasting leadership value.
