At Marine Society, we want every seafarer to feel like their bespoke journey can be catered for and supported through our services, this includes maritime professionals looking to take their maritime career shoreside.

We offer a service titled the ‘Coming Ashore’ programme for this profile of seafarer, who for professional or personal reasons, have made the decision to disembark a vessel permanently.

We understand the challenges and uncertainties that come with this significant change. Our programme provides structured career guidance, mentoring and resources to help you navigate this transition smoothly. There are also placement opportunities within the programme, with three jobs secured at Ambrey, a P&I Club, and ABP.

Whether you’re looking to continue in the maritime sector or explore new opportunities, our mentors are here to support you every step of the way.

We have a large mentoring team who offer experience in a plethora of sectors across the maritime industry, this means that we can pair a mentee to a specific mentor with the most appropriate skillset. This will give individuals a better chance to find a role that aligns with their career goals and needs, rather than just making ends meet.

“The Coming Ashore programme’s goal is to identify and address additional skills and experience seafarers need when coming ashore and then providing a pathway to ensure they are suitably equipped. The programme is open to all ranks and nationality.” ~ Marine Society Director, Darrell Bate

Amongst our resource list within the programme, we have a list of courses covering all facets of maritime business from a shoreside perspective titled: Learn@Shore. Learn@Shore courses provide an eclectic range of options to refine or develop your skillset for a job role ashore. These introductory short courses are available to Coming Ashore mentees and not only will expand an individuals knowledge on chosen areas but also help mentees understand a new sector that they are considering moving into.
