Port Captain (Bulk) – Brazil

We are supporting a well-established international shipping company in the search for a Port Captain to oversee dry bulk cargo operations across owned and chartered vessels.
 
This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective cargo operations, acting as a key link between Port Operations, Chartering, and vessel crews.
 
Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo operations on owned and chartered dry bulk vessels
• Appoint and manage supercargoes
• Provide guidance on cargo care and cargo management
• Review and recommend stowage plans in coordination with ship operators and technical teams
• Collect and report port data, including costs and restrictions, to the Chartering team
• Manage and track consumable cargo-handling equipment
• Maintain records and support payment authorisation for operational expenses
• Ensure overall marine supervision throughout cargo operations
• Act as an operational expert and advisor to commercial teams

Requirements

• Sailing background as Chief Officer or Master Mariner preferred
• Strong experience in dry bulk cargo operations
• Knowledge of cargo loading, unloading, and transportation
• Shore-based experience beneficial
• Fluent in English; Portuguese and Spanish preferred
• Self-driven, communicative, and open-minded
• Flexibility to travel on short notice
• Strong focus on teamwork, continuous improvement, and cost optimisation
• Eligibility to work in Brazil
