Laytime Shipping Specialist — MAT-Leave Contract (6-12 Months)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a commercially critical role for a Post-Fixtures team working with a global shipping and mining company based in Singapore.
Reporting to the Post-Fixtures Supervisor, you will own the full laytime and demurrage lifecycle across diverse trade routes and charter party types, negotiating directly with shipowners, brokers and operators to achieve optimal commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret charter party contracts across multiple trade routes and pricing mechanisms, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Calculate laytime and manage the end-to-end demurrage claims process — issuing notices, responding to counter-proposals and settling claims.
- Negotiate favourable commercial outcomes by interpreting contractual clauses in the context of actual port events.
- Manage laytime communications across different geographical locations and time zones.
- Provide expert advice on laytime and demurrage language.
- Identify and mitigate commercial risk.
- Liaise with legal teams to negotiate and resolve charter party disputes.
- Produce regular laytime status reports for senior stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in laytime, demurrage or post-fixtures within dry or wet bulk shipping.
- Strong ability to interpret and negotiate charter party clauses across different trade routes.
- Confidence negotiating directly with shipowners, brokers and operators.
- Commercially astute with excellent attention to detail and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a high-volume claims portfolio and meet strict time-bar deadlines.
- Collaborative team player comfortable working across legal, commercial and operations functions.
