We are working with an established international LNG ship-management company seeking a Vessel Manager to join its London-based fleet-management team.
 
The Vessel Manager will act as the principal shore-based contact for their allocated vessels, supporting their safe, reliable and cost-effective operation. The role combines technical management, regulatory compliance, budget control, crew oversight and overall vessel-performance management.
This position would suit a marine engineer with senior sailing experience aboard LNG, LPG or other tanker vessels who is looking to develop or continue a shore-based career. Applications may also be considered from engineering graduates with relevant experience in a ship-management company, classification society, flag administration or comparable marine organisation.
 
Key responsibilities

• Act as the principal shore-based point of contact for allocated vessels.
• Ensure vessels operate safely and efficiently in accordance with the company’s Safety Management System.
• Ensure compliance with Flag State, Classification Society, international convention, industry and company requirements.
• Monitor each vessel’s technical condition, performance and planned maintenance programme.
• Review outstanding maintenance and provide guidance to vessel teams.
• Maintain oversight of vessel certification, class status and survey requirements.
• Arrange repairs, spare parts, stores, lubricating oil and other vessel requirements.
• Review and approve requisitions, purchase orders and invoices promptly and accurately.
• Coordinate class and flag surveys, dry-dockings, repair periods and associated service providers.
• Attend vessels during dry-dockings and major repair periods.
• Carry out vessel inspections and prepare reports in accordance with company procedures.
• Monitor and resolve warranty claims relating to newly delivered vessels.
• Collect and analyse vessel-performance data.
• Assist with the management and investigation of marine accidents and other vessel-related incidents.
• Prepare annual vessel budgets and manage allocated vessels within approved expenditure.
• Support crew assignment, training, performance and evaluation matters.
• Respond to technical and operational enquiries from vessels, customers and other stakeholders.
• Attend stakeholder meetings when required.

Essential requirements
Candidates should meet one of the following qualification routes:

• Class I or Class II Engineering Certificate of Competency.
• Advanced tanker safety training covering gas, oil or chemical tankers.
• Sailing experience as Second Engineer/First Assistant Engineer or above aboard LNG, LPG, oil or chemical tankers.

Or:

• Degree-level qualification in engineering.
• At least three years’ relevant experience within the technical department of a comparable shore-based ship-management organisation or recognised marine body, such as a classification society or Flag State administration.

Candidates should also demonstrate:

• Good understanding of vessel maintenance, planned maintenance systems and maritime regulations.
• Experience or knowledge of dry-dockings, repairs, surveys and vessel inspections.
• Sound budget-management and cost-control skills.
• Strong problem-solving, planning and decision-making abilities.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multinational vessel crews and shore-based stakeholders.
• A strong commitment to safety, quality and reliable vessel operations.

Location and travel

• Based in London (hybrid arrangement available after probation)
• Worldwide travel is required.
• Candidates must be prepared to attend vessels at short notice when operationally necessary.
