Technical Superintendent – PCTC

An established international shipowner is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the safe, reliable and cost-effective performance of assigned vessels.

PCTC experience is essential for this appointment. Experience with dual-fuel vessels would be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and monitor Class and Flag State survey requirements, ensuring vessel certification remains valid.
  • Provide technical guidance on vessel repairs and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
  • Manage planned maintenance activities and technical worklists across assigned vessels.
  • Oversee the full drydocking process, including specifications, budgeting, planning and on-site supervision.
  • Review and approve stores and spare-parts requisitions within agreed authorisation limits.
  • Monitor vessel performance KPIs, including fuel and lubricating-oil consumption, operating costs and technical performance.
  • Support the Assistant Fleet Manager and Fleet Manager with budgeting, analysis and cost-optimisation initiatives.
  • Conduct vessel inspections, audits, and sale and purchase inspections.
  • Complete debriefings and performance reviews for senior shipboard personnel in collaboration with Marine HR.
  • Coach and develop senior officers, with a focus on safety, technical performance and cost leadership.
  • Promote sustainable working practices, waste reduction and compliance with HSSE requirements.
  • Review and propose technical specifications for new buildings and vessel conversions, ensuring statutory compliance.

Candidate Requirements

  • Previous experience working with PCTC vessels is essential.
  • Dual-fuel vessel experience would be highly advantageous.
  • At least six months’ sailing experience as a Chief Engineer
  • 2 years Technical Superintendent experience
  • A degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or a Class 1 Certificate of Competency as a Chief Engineer (Foreign Going).
  • Strong knowledge of planned maintenance systems, technical reporting tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience monitoring vessel KPIs and conducting staff performance reviews.
  • Effective people-management and senior-officer development skills.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and negotiation abilities.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet demanding operational deadlines.
  • Confidence managing a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
