We see this as part of our long-term commitment in fulfilling our mission to provide education opportunities for aspiring seafarers and look forward to them being caring leaders in the future.’
The MaritimeONE Scholarship Programme is the Singapore Maritime Academy’s flagship outreach and talent development initiative and sets out to encourage students to pursue maritime-related courses, paving the way for a rewarding maritime industry career.
Yvonne said, ‘By receiving this scholarship, I will get a chance to fulfil my aspirations of joining the Maritime Industry with aims to be a Chief Engineer and/or a Naval Architect.’

Sailors’ Society is an international charity that provides a personal lifeline for the world’s 1.5 million seafarers and their families, in port, at sea and at home. The charity offers practical help, emotional and spiritual support, financial assistance and family liaison. Our port chaplains visit thousands of ships every year, directly addressing the needs of seafarers – irrespective of a person’s belief or nationality – as well as maintaining vital links within the Ports that they operate.
About the MaritimeOne scheme
The MaritimeONE scheme was launched in 2007 as a combined initiative from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF), Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) and Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) to showcase the maritime industry and its key figures, whilst seeking to attract young talent into the industry.
Places will be offered to students of any nationality and it is only the second time that scholarships will be offered to non-Singaporeans or permanent residents.
In addition to the MaritimeONE programme, the Society will also be offering means-tested maritime scholarships to those most in need of financial help to fund their maritime education.
