The Maritime HR Association signed up its 85th member in recent days. What started out in 2005 as 6 shipping employers lamenting the lack of salary benchmarking data, is now a major employers’ organisation which, according to one of the founding members, has “professionalised HR in shipping.”
Karen Waltham, pictured right, who recently left tanker owner AET to join Spinnaker Global as MD of HR Consulting, said, “As a client of Spinnaker’s and member of the Maritime HR Association, I knew first-hand the benefits of membership. It’s a no-brainer for any shipping employer!”
Last month, the Maritime HR Association published the 2014 Maritime Salary Survey, providing comprehensive benchmarking data for some 50 shore-side jobs in shipping centres around the world. This week, the 2014 Annual Market Analysis of shipping salaries and bonuses has been published. Highlights include: pay review budgets, housing allowances, trends and comparisons in pay and bonuses between different locations, company types, market segments / vessel types and discussions of hot topics such as operations salaries in Singapore, freight trading bonuses and shipmanagement staffing structures and pay.
Both of these reports are a fascinating read and available to members only. For more information about membership, contact Michele Hawkins at [email protected]
Next on the agenda is the Maritime HR Association’s annual conference on May 11th and 12th in London. Members will be receiving more information soon, but non-members who are interested in attending should contact Emily Warren for more information: [email protected]
