It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Jim Lawrence — a pioneer in the maritime world, the founder of Marine Money, and a true friend to so many across the industry.
Jim was more than a leader. He was a connector, a community-builder, and a constant source of positivity. As our CEO Phil Parry puts it: “He was one of the most American Americans I have ever met – always so enthusiastic, funny, warm, friendly, intelligent and always moving at warp speed, making connections between friends and generally adding value to the lives of those he touched.”
Those lucky enough to know Jim knew his boundless energy, his inclusive spirit, and his deep belief in the power of people. He didn’t just create Marine Money — he created a global community where relationships came first and success followed naturally.
Jim’s legacy is not only the trillion-dollar ship finance sector he helped shape, but the thousands of lives and careers he quietly supported along the way — always with kindness, humility, and humour.
Jim Lawrence truly was one of a kind — and we were lucky to know him.
