DRY bulk shipping is enjoying a reprieve from the car crash market of the last 12 months. But it ain’t over yet folks. Our very good friend, maritime economist Fred Doll, gave a hugely interesting speech which he somehow managed heroically to pack into 15 minutes at the ISF conference. “The Economic Downturn – Weathering The Storm” reminded us (because some people seem to have forgotten) that shipping is indeed cyclical, that oil and container demand are down and that fleet growth has barely started (ouch!).
