Spinnaker’s 30 under 30: Celebrating the next generation of maritime talent

Every generation tends to be framed through the same lens, questioned, analysed and often burdened with the responsibility of “fixing” the future. In shipping, we regularly ask what the next generation will bring, what kind of industry they are inheriting, and what legacy is being left for them to navigate.

Yet, as history consistently shows, each new generation arrives with fresh thinking, energy and a willingness to challenge what has come before. There is, in fact, a great deal to be optimistic about. The 30 Under 30 initiative was created to celebrate exactly that optimism, to spotlight the talent, enthusiasm and initiatives that young professionals are already bringing to the shipping industry. These individuals are not waiting for permission to make an impact; they are actively shaping the industry and challenging the status quo in meaningful ways through their ideas, their work and their values.

Last year’s 30 Under 30 highlighted several inspiring themes. Many nominees spoke about the importance of staying curious, a reminder that shipping is a specialist, constantly evolving industry where asking questions and challenging the norm is essential. We also saw a clear shift in how maritime roles are enabling individuals to make meaningful contributions to the planet. Once largely associated with the cruise sector, ESG and sustainability-focused roles are now embedded across the wider industry, from technical and legal to finance, marketing, operations and commercial functions.

This year, from the final Top 30, we will also select five individuals whose profiles stand out for the significance of their work, the initiatives they are leading, or the impact they are having within their organisations and beyond. These five will be featured further, including potential press coverage, featured on the Spinnaker website and LinkedIn, and invited to join us at our conference to be part of the wider conversation shaping the future of shipping.

If you are under 30 and working within the maritime industry, we encourage you to put yourself forward, or to recognise someone who deserves to be seen. We welcome self-nominations as well as entries from line managers and HR teams. The deadline for submissions is 13 March.

To find out more please take a look at our website and if you have any questions, please get in touch with [email protected]. To nominate someone or yourself, please follow this link.

The final Top 30 Under 30 will be published on the Spinnaker website from 1 April, with all selected individuals invited to attend the Maritime People & Culture Conference in London.
