What Job Seekers Really Want in 2025

The job market is constantly evolving, and so are job seekers’ priorities. Today, candidates are not just looking for an improved salary or package; they want to work for companies that align with their values, offer career growth, and provide flexibility. From hybrid working to company culture, here’s what job seekers are really looking for in their next opportunity.

  1. Flexibility is Non-Negotiable

Hybrid working is at the top of nearly every candidate’s wish-list. As Spinnaker’s Recruitment Consultant Aaron Griggs highlighted, hybrid roles, in London especially, are particularly in demand. This was further verified by the MD of Spinnaker’s Executive Search division Teresa Peacock and Principal Recruitment Consultant Hayley Menere who both agreed, noting that “nobody wants five days a week in the office” anymore. Businesses that offer flexible working arrangements are far more attractive to candidates, as work-life balance remains a key priority.

  1. Good Working Culture Matters

Company culture is one of the biggest factors in a candidate’s decision-making process. Hayley pointed out that a strong, positive working culture is something job seekers actively look for. A workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and engaged is far more appealing than one where morale is low.

  1. Career Progression & Development

Job seekers want to see a clear career path within an organisation. Teresa noted that candidates are not just looking for a job but a place where they can grow and be developed. Companies that invest in training, mentorship, and career progression plans will naturally attract top talent.

  1. Company Values & Social Responsibility

Candidates want to work for businesses that align with their personal values and make a positive contribution to society. Spinnaker’s Recruitment Researcher Chloe Jones mentioned that people are interested in what a company stands for—do they engage in charity work? Do they contribute to social causes? A strong, purpose-driven culture can set an employer apart.

  1. Market Reputation & Transparency

In today’s digital world, candidates are more informed than ever. Teresa highlighted that job seekers research company reputation and turnover rates. If a business has high staff turnover or negative reviews, candidates will know about it. Employers need to be transparent, acknowledge any past challenges, and demonstrate what they are doing to create a better workplace.

  1. Diversity & Inclusion

A diverse and inclusive workplace is a key factor for many job seekers. Spinnaker’s Recruitment Resourcer Clementine Matiwaza pointed out that candidates want to work in an environment that embraces diversity and fosters collaboration. Companies with a strong commitment to inclusivity will be far more attractive to talent across all backgrounds.

  1. Accessibility & Team Collaboration

The location and accessibility of a workplace are also key considerations. Clementine noted that candidates take into account whether an office is easy to reach by public transport or car. Additionally, many professionals prefer roles that involve team collaboration rather than stand-alone positions, reinforcing the importance of a supportive and connected work environment.

The Bottom Line

Job seekers are looking beyond just salary and job titles. Flexibility, good working culture, career growth, company values, and workplace reputation all play a significant role in attracting and retaining talent. Employers who actively promote these aspects will stand out in an increasingly competitive job market.
