At Spinnaker, we’re proud to support charities in our social activities. From bike rides to bake-offs, we can often be found fundraising for charities such as Sailors’ Society, Seafarers UK, Mission to Seafarers, Apostleship of the Sea, Alzheimer’s UK, and many more.
Spinnaker is also a supporter of the OSCAR (The Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children’s Health and Research) Campaign for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. Founded by Spinnaker Chairman Phil Parry, the OSCAR Campaign is named after Phil’s son Oscar, who received life-saving care from GOSH at a very young age.
Every September, Spinnaker hosts the OSCAR Dragon Boat Race in London, which brings together the shipping community to fundraise for the campaign. Since 2013, the OSCAR Dragon Boat Race has been a big date in the maritime social calendar, often bringing 500 industry people together to race on the Thames. In 2019 the 6th annual race raised £155,000 in a single day, bringing the total raised for the OSCAR Campaign to over £2million.
The money raised goes directly to live research into childhood cancers, helping saving the lives of other children just like Oscar. Find out more about the OSCAR Campaign at: https://www.gosh.org/get-involved/fundraising-events/oscar-dragon-boat-race/
