We are currently partnered with an international shipowner that has has grown exponentially in the last 5 years and recognises the need to continually build and improve upon processes and systems to continue to create a world class business.
 
 
In line with this, the company seeks an experienced Commercial Risk Analyst to provide to commercial functions – Chartering and Projects – and to the Risk Committee, risk assessments/analyses and position summaries (i) on a live basis, for prospective transactions, and (ii) on an ongoing basis, for all live transactions, as well as ad hoc analyses as requested.
 
Key responsibilities will include:
 
Market Analysis:
Provide analytics to cover capital, credit, liquidity, interest, currency, price (and MTM), and/or other relevant risk and market factors plus, stress scenarios and hedging/mitigation opportunities.
Monitor market trends, economic indicators, and geopolitical events that may impact commodity prices and trading strategies
Provide insights and recommendations based on market analysis.
 
Portfolio Analysis:
Analyse the company’s trading portfolio to assess risk exposure and concentration.
Evaluate the impact of potential market movements on the portfolio’s performance.
 
Credit Risk Management
Evaluate counterparty creditworthiness and monitor credit limits.
Collaborate with credit departments to establish and maintain credit risk policies.
 
Contract Review and Compliance
Review and analyse trading contracts to ensure compliance with risk management policies and industry regulations.
Identify and communicate any contractual risks or discrepancies.
 
Scenario Analysis and Stress Testing:
Develop and implement scenario analysis and stress testing models to assess the impact of extreme market events on the company’s trading positions
 
Reporting and Communication:
On top of the new transaction and ad hoc analyses, reports to also manifest in (i) daily position summaries and/or a weekly management report on individual and aggregate risks, and (ii) a periodic report to the Risk Committee for strategic risk management purposes.
Prepare and present regular risk reports to senior management and key stakeholders.
Communicate risk assessments and recommendations to relevant teams within the organization.
Risk reports to be issued to commercial personnel, for transaction approval purposes, and the Risk Committee as above.
 
Stakeholder Management:
To coordinate internal stakeholders, notably Finance and commercial teams.
 
The Ideal candidate will have the following background:
 
Educated to degree level
Commercial Market/economics background/focus
3 years plus experience at a high-class shipping/trading/similar outfit.
Capability in building models and processes
Professional attitude and demeanour.
Resilience and ability to be able to manage multiple processes at once. Must be able to work at pace and under pressure.
Professional, enthusiastic, and flexible – carrying out role professionally, showing a willingness to adapt when required and meeting the demands of the role.
Personal confidence in own ability.
Personal pride taken in the quality of output and the level of service provided to all stakeholders.
