Finance & Accounting Jobs

There are two types of finance functions in the maritime sector – those that are responsible for marine finance and whose functions include responsibility in relation to vessels and voyages such as time charter hire, freight billing & collection, demurrage collection and marine accounting. 

There is also corporate finance, which is more traditional and the type of finance found in any organisation outside of the maritime industry. This function is responsible for the company’s finances such as credit control & cash management, financial reporting, audit, taxation and treasury.

Accountant, Assistant Accountant, Accounting Manager, Accounts Manager, Assistant CFO, Chief Accountant, Financial Controller, Finance Director, Finance Manager, Head of Finance, Business Controller, Financial Planer, Financial Analyst, FP&A Manager, FP&A Analyst, Vessel Accountant, Fleet Accountant and Senior Corporate Accounts Manager.

Where can I work in a finance or accounting position?

All organisations in the maritime industry require someone responsible for their finances and although those roles can be found globally, there is a predominance for these in major centres including Copenhagen (Denmark), Hong Kong, India, London (UK), Oslo (Norway), Connecticut & Houston (USA).

Key skills and experience
  • Skills vary depending on the job but knowledge of packages such as ADP, Excel, payroll systems, local regulation may be required.
  • A degree in finance, accounting, economics, business admin or related field is often required.
  • Attention to detail and organisational skills are a benefit in roles such as these.
