A profitable global shipbroking business is recruiting a leader for their Houston office.
As an experienced and successful broker or commercial shipping professional within the U.S. tanker market, you will lead the established Houston office and be responsible for growing the business and team within the region along with managing your own clients and deals.
We are looking for a natural leader – a player-manager who will develop and transact business at senior levels.
You are more than just another broker, charterer or trader. Whilst the main focus is to recruit a Head of Crude for Houston, the most important thing is to find someone with leadership skills who will develop and build upon the existing team and embody the character and qualities that our client is known for. Favourable consideration will therefore be given to any applicant with these qualities even if they come from another niche within the tanker markets.
You are well-established within the tanker market and able to service U.S. oil company clients. It is highly likely that you are already based in the U.S. / Houston. You must have the right to live and work in the U.S. and so therefore will be an American citizen or Green Card holder or have the right to obtain a work permit.
We are looking not only for a player-manager but an ambassador and representative who ‘gets’ the bigger picture economically, politically, environmentally and ethically. You must be willing to speak out and hold yourself out as an expert and opinion former.

Spinnaker is working with a world-leading agri trader. Our client is looking for a freight operator to join their team in Florida, USA. For this role you will be responsible for aspects of the voyage ranging from the initial instructions, cargo and bunkers calculations, hire and freight payments through to the finalisation.
The core functions for this role are:
Planning and operations of all aspects of the voyage ranging from the initial instructions
Preparation of cargos and bunkers calculations
Preparation and follow up on freight payments through to the finalization
Appointing agents, surveyors and port captains
Communication with owners, charterers, brokers, traders
Coaching of trainees and newcomers on company and department activities.
Accounting and control of the bills, assignments, payments, etc.
The skills and experience required for this role are:
Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Maritime is a plus
Knowledge of accounting and Finance
Minimum 4/5 years of experience as a dry cargo operator dealing with Dry Bulk cargoes in Panamax and Handy sized vessels.
An entrepreneurial-minded, hardworking and structured team player.
Good business acumen
Strong analytical and data gathering skills
Detail-oriented professional with the ability to handle complex reporting while meeting deadlines, sometimes with short turnaround
Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills
Fast learner, and ability to focus on the overall goals while still working with details
Able to work in a team environment
Experience with the SoftMar integrated voyage handling system an advantage but not mandatory.

The ideal candidate will come from a Handy/Supramax background gained within an Operator environment and possess strong business development skills.
As a Chartering Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing cargoes and tonnage in the market and looking for opportunities for arbitrage. You will be responsible for all chartering activities in your area, conducting market research, negotiating and fixing charter parties and contributing positively towards the books P&L.
