Operations Manager- Bulk- Singapore

We are currently partnered with an international Ship Owner/ Operator that are looking at expansion of their office in Singapore by adding an experienced Operations Manager to their team in this location.
 
This role will play a pivotal role in managing the day to day commercial operations of owned and time-chartered vessels and ensuring requirements of the charter parties are fulfilled. The position will require close cooperation with various departments including chartering, marine, legal etc…
 
In this role your responsibilities will be:
 

  • Managing and ensuring that the voyages are performed in a compliance with the relevant contracts with due consideration to the commercial strategy. Being responsible for maximising profit for each voyage.
  • Maintaining close communication with all stakeholders of the voyage, including charterers, ship masters, customers, brokers and etc.
  • Monitoring of vessel movements for executing of activities including bunker planning, appointment & coordination with agents and obtaining necessary documentations.
  • Ensuring highest quality of customer service (Tonnage and Cargo). Developing a close working relationship with the customer, understanding their business needs to exceed their expectations.
  • Coordinating with the Legal and Insurance team to minimize risk and exposure. Ensuring that disputes and claims are settled in a timely and efficient manner.

Requirements:
 

  • Degree or Diploma in Maritime or Shipping with minimum 5 years’ experience in dry bulk shipping industry.
  • Good understanding of bulk shipping operations
  • Experience in using Voyage Management System such as Softmar or IMOS will be an advantage.
  • Good organisation skills with ability to apply reasoning and judgment on critical issues.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team

Operations Manager- Panamax- Copenhagen

Post Fixture Operator- London

We are currently partnered with an established Greek Shipowner who are on the lookout for a Post Fixture Operator to join their team in London. This is a great opportunity to join a settled team where you would have exposure to both wet and dry cargo sides of their fleet.
 
Below is the overview of the responsibilities:

  • Prepare hires/laytime/demurrages calculations/checking etc. for Tanker/Cargo and Container vessels
  • Liaise with Charterers brokers, and have a good knowledge of the charter parties
  • Operations use an automated program called VMS and this must be kept updated with the necessary data/inputs during the voyages.
  • Invoices issuance and debit the Charterers with any other expenses on their behalf carried out during the vessels charter period (no for tankers as all are in the tramp market).
  • Checking and following also all the operation department messages day to day and drafting/sending replies to Charterers via brokers, if necessary, always under the supervision of the vessel’s operator for any hire/etc. disputes.
  • Liaise with Charterers’ & brokers for the progress of hires/demurrages submitted and reminders shall be issued till same was paid.
  • Liaise with our Accounts department in order to know when the funds paid from various parties.
  • Candidate must have a good knowledge of charter parties and to be in a position to draft replies when a discrepancies/disputes occurred.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Must be prepared to work from office 5 days per week i.e no hybrid arrangement.
  • Individual could have experience gained within a shipowner, commodity group or a Brokerage

Chartering Manager (Handy-UMX)

We are currently with an international Shipowner/Operator who are looking for a Dry Bulk Charterer to join their expanding team in London.
 
This company have a growing fleet of Dry Bulk vessels, currently running a fleet of 12, with 8 more on order including Ultramax and Kamsarmax. They are looking for someone with the relevant dry bulk experience to come and manage and build a cargo book.
 
They are looking for someone with 5 or more years experience in dry bulk chartering. A solid operational background would also be preferred. Exposure to various size segments, including Capes, Ultras, Handys and Supras, as well as a proven background in fixing these vessels and familiarity with dry paper trading and hedging risk.
 
You will be expected to show a familiarity with the major charterers in the dry bulk market, as well as having the ability to bring in third party cargoes and develop a 360-degree book.

Chem/ Product Tanker Operator- London

We are currently working with an international shipowner with an expanding fleet that are on the lookout for an experienced Tanker Operator with Chems/ Product Tanker experience to join their team in London.

This position has arisen off the back of fleet expansion with several new Chem/ Product Tankers being delivered which they intend this hire to take responsibility for. The role will entail:
 

  • Coordinate timely provision of voyage orders, agency appointments
  • Manage and ensure compliance with charter party terms
  • Review tank cleaning plans (in coordination with our Marine Operations team), along with following up with the vessel to oversee progress and verification of cleaning standards
  • Coordinate bunker planning in the most cost and time efficient manner
  • Review stowplans to ensure we are optimising our cargo intakes where applicable, whilst assisting the Chartering Department for time critical pre-fixture tasks
  • Ensure that, where applicable, we obtain letters of indemnity from our Counterparts if there are any deviations from the charter party terms
  • Maintain and file all data relevant to voyages in various systems
  • Disclose information internally as company escalation protocols to support a transparent and closely aligned global team spirit
  • Take on ad hoc tasks where necessary to support specific business needs or growth-related projects for the Commercial Operations Department
  • Raising timely freight and hire invoices using the voyage management system (Q88 VMS)
  • Assisting the claims department with on voyage claims including but not limited to interim port calls, shifting costs, speed up costs and world scale rebillable items

Global Market Expert- Gas Carriers Commercial

We are currently partnered with a market leading classification society who are in the process of developing a global hub of business excellence. A key hire in this development will be their new Global Commercial Expert for the Gas Carriers business which they will base out of Doha.
 
This will hire will need to be someone that has proven commercial track record and will work in close coordination with their Global Technical Expert for the gas market who will also be based out of Doha. The role will manage two of their key accounts that are based in the region but they are looking for someone that can strategically achieve their international growth plan so someone with strong BD skills will be paramount as our client is looking to win new business internationally.
 
Whilst this is a commercially led role it will be important that this hire has a good level of technical understanding ideally with an Engineering/ Naval Architecture background that has then moved into more commercial led positions. This individual will be very much a subject matter expert when it comes to gas carriers so would be expected to attend industry events/ appear on panels at conferences etc…
 
The position will report into the Global VP and work in close coordination with the Commercial Director.
 
The ideal candidate will have an recognised authority within the market segment, strong negotiating skills with underlying technical knowledge in the gas market, particularly the LNG space.

Senior Dry Vessel Operator- Singapore

We are currently working with a global commodity Trader who are looking for a Senior Vessel Operator to join their shipping team within Singapore. This is a great opportunity for someone to join a well established team with a highly dynamic work environment.
 
Main accountabilities:
This role requires efficient control and close liaison with other counterparties in remote locations. The key tasks assigned include:

  • Operate and be responsible for the end to end management of all allocated dry vessels’ 

operations matter, for Dry Cargo ships

  • Communicate and liaise with vessel owner’s/ship masters/charterers, trading team and other relevant stakeholders on voyage instructions
  • Responsible for following up on post fixture activities
  • Manage assigned external relations with customers and / or suppliers
  • Support and lead process improvement initiatives as required
  • Ensure and champion a close and harmonious working relationship with the relevant Commercial team
  • Collaborate effectively with other Freight Platform desks

 
Knowledge and Experience:

  • 4/5 years’ experience as Operator of Voyage/ Time Charter dry bulk vessel, minimally 8-10 vessels at a time
  • Significant and demonstrated customer or supplier relationship skills
  • An interest in and aptitude for people management
  • Knowledge of macroeconomics including trade flows
  • Commercial Maturity/Shipping or Economic studies
  • Fluent in English essential, with other languages an advantage
  • Proficient in use of technology particularly Excel, Word, Shipping system (strong preference for IMOS).

Dry Operations Manager- Dubai

We are currently working with a European Broking house that have a newly established office in Dubai they are looking to expand by bringing in a talented Operations Manager to work closely with their Dry Cargo Brokers and in coordination with their European counterparts within operations.
 
This would be a great opportunity for an experienced Operator that wants to join a newly created office and a team that is already thriving in terms of volume. The role would be predominantly focused on Voyage operations but it would be a combination of VC and TC work concentrated in the Middle East.
 
The role would be ideal for someone that has circa 5-10 years’ dry operations experience either gainer within a Broking House or potentially an Owner/ Operator. Someone that understands the Handy-SMX trade would be the best fit but those with PMX experience would still be considered. Candidates with less experience than indicated above will still be of interest if they are able to demonstrate the potential to grow into the role quickly.

Cost Control and Port Specialist- London

We are currently working on a Cost Control and Port Specialist position for a major international and market leading  ship owner/ operator within the bulk market. This is a new position that would report directly into the Global Head of Cost Control also London based.
 
The primary focus of the position would be driving cost saving synergies and improving contract efficiency within the Atlantic and Pacific regions with a particular focus on port costs. You would monitor and analyse port costs in order to identify variances and spots where overspending can be recognised. This role will also draw upon relationship building as cultivating positive relationships with suppliers and vendors would be very advantageous. Negotiating new agreements as well as re-negotiating existing ones will also form a large part of the role.

This position would be ideal for someone that has around 4/5 years working within an Agency setup or within port operations. Someone that understands port costs and contracts would be ideal. Ideally you will have strong systematic skills and are able to think strategically regarding cost saving solutions.
